The Sophistication of Height in Victoria
| | | |
 |
| Statewide (10m) | | Vicmap Elevation comes in two levels.
A statewide representation of natural relief features is available, captured at 1:25,000 scale and offered at 10m contour intervals, with supporting spot heights.
This data has originated in the Vicmap Topographic map series, and is particularly useful to environmental management bodies, emergency services, educational institutions, engineering, planning, and civil users.
 |
Metro (1-5m) |
| Within the Melbourne Metropolitan area, Vicmap Elevation is also available in a 1 to 5m contour interval dataset. Originally created by the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW) from surveys conducted in the 1970’s & 80’s, this dataset is much more accurate due to the finer detail. |
| |
| Note however that there may be areas where quarries, roadworks, or large building sites have precluded precision data capture. The changing nature of 1, 2, and 5 meter intervals varies from locality to locality. Users of this data should satisfy themselves that they are happy with interval range in their area of interest. |
